1D2N, Ducks, Takumar

I recently purchased a 1D2N and have been learning its ins and outs. I don't have any Canon lenses yet so I'm using some older Takumar lenses. I went out to try some inflight panning shots using a 40 yr old Super Tak 300mm f/4. I haven't tried manually focusing while panning ever since I got my first AF camera but it was a lot of fun trying to keep up. I like the 1D's speed which helped to get a couple of keepers. These are not special enough to post in the wildlife section so I hope you won't mind if I put them here.

Steve,

These make a nice triptych!

So what adapter are you using. Does it stop down with a lever or what?

Hi Asher,

I have a plain M42-EOS adapter I bought for $10. The Takumars have an Auto/Manual switch and I have to remember to switch it to manual for the exposure and back to auto to focus and compose. In other words there isn't any automatic stop down just like in the good old days! On a Pentax the A/M switch allows a DOF preview which is something that is built in these days. I did get the EC-B focusing screen which helps a lot especially with the S-M-C Takumar 50mm f/1.4.

You humbly say these arent "special". I beg to differ! Photos of this clarity, color and sharpness are exactly what I am striving for! I love them and I will use them as my benchmark for the few misplaced ducks here in West Texas.

Thanks Wayne. I'm still trying to regain the feel of manual focusing I once had. I was out today and saw an eagle and really wasn't able to get a really good capture. I definitely need more practice and a much longer AF lens. Here's an example.
