Now, for the first time, do I see why Rugby football was so popular in the more elite "Grammar Schools", (for brighter kids aged 11+), as this grit and determination is a great background for subsequent officer training for those who went on to careers in the British military.
This also brings back memories of my bouts with the game as an unwilling half back who had to stop thundering enemy hulks dashing for our goal line! cleated boots, be damned! That's how I chipped all my front teeth.
