Mostly this is brought on by only using MF and LF gear and not having obvious places here to post certain questions. So anyway, here's my $0.02 on what sub-forum and forum organization I'd like to see:

I think this is a great forum with a lot of potential. This post is in no way intended to criticize the work of Asher and others who have got this forum going. Just a few thoughts for consideration is all.

Dave,

We have no issue with scientific/pragmatic criticism.

We are already working on the naming of the Digital Back sections.

As you pointed out:

MF & LF Digital
MF & LF Cameras
Digital Backs
MF & LF Lenses

Is more approriate. Well probably start by a simple name change!

That is where were are about to make changes next. We have a major commitment in Digital Backs and the MF cameras as well as Horseman, Sinar, LF cameras, Alpa, Ebony and every other professional body to which the DB can be attached.

As you can see from the current posts, our several MF users are sophisticated and expert in what they do. Add to that Stephen Eastwood who uses almost all the backs in Beauty and Fashion Photography, there is a great nucleus of expertise to get us going in the first baby steps to building a vibrant and serious MF & LF digital community here.

BTW, feel free to PM me on your own special interests and whether you have any DB experience to put into the pot so to speak.

We need all the help we can get here.

We are also looking to hear from Nikon users and someone who is very knowledgable on Nikon lenses. The same applies to all other camera systems. I will read all such mail personaly and value your help in this effort.

I'll be examining the rest of your post.

Thanks again,

Asher

Asher, i think there are too many sub-forums. This forum is very new, and it does not have the number of posters to justify so many sub-forums. Why not amalgamate some of the smaller forums and then split them into sub-forums when OPF grows?

A smaller list of subforums, each with more posts, will make this place seem more dynamic ... rather than spreading the posts thinly across the board. It's a bit like a town with massive urban sprawl ... sometimes more condensed living makes it seem more alive.

For example (I have adapted Dave's post - hope he doesn't mind):

OPF Site-Related Topics
Introduce Yourself <--- do we really need this? No discussion is ever going to take place. People will say "Hi i'm Keith" followed by a dozen posts saying "Welcome to OPF".
OPF Suggestion Box
Non-photographic discussions <--- renamed "layback cafe"
Provocative Topics

Digital <--- Small and large format digital amalgamated
Canon DSLRs <--- Canon "1-series" and "other" amalgamated
Nikon DSLRs
Other Cameras <--- "Other DSLR's", "Rangefinders", and "digicams" amalgamated
<--- "Lenses" subforum removed (should lens discussions take place in Canon, Nikon, and "Other" subforums?).
MF & LF Cameras, backs, lenses <--- all 3 subforums amalgamated

Digital Darkroom
Digital Asset Management
Raw Conversion, editing workflow <--- 2 subforums amalgamated

Dave,

Ideas to be considered. Part of my daily printout.

"FRESH FISH SOLD HERE"

"Fresh"? "Sounds like you're hiding something."

"FISH SOLD HERE"

"Here", you're joking, can smell it a mile away!"

"FISH SOLD"

"Sold"? Stupidly redundant!"

"FISH"

"Fish"? What part of "We smell it a mile away! " don't you understand?

" :( "
