@James,

Fabulous news story! I love the picture. Do you go into the mass of women, Fuji-modest or Leica gentleman upper class! Give us some text!

Asher

Fabulous photos, James.

This looks like Vancouver. There were also marches in Toronto and in Montreal!

So, Maggie,

Do you think there was a North America coordination for these important and obviously popular Marches?

In the massive multi-city USA demonstrations all the "Pussy Topics" above were included, but the main thrust, (pardon my pun), was to confront the apparent, self-made, "arch-enemy" of modern women's control over their own bodies, worth and political rights, Donald Trump!

Asher, Maggie, Peter

I did not participate in the march itself but I had been planning to attend this event in Vancouver, BC Canada for a couple of weeks. I believe that there are marches going on today as well in some locations. It is a world wide event.

I arrived early in the morning where everyone gathered to meet as shown in the first image. I listened to a number of speakers representing a wide variety of groups. The indigenous community, black lives matter, teachers, LGBT, sex trade workers etc.

They spoke of their specific concerns, problems, solutions, and what they hope to achieve in the future while I mingled with my Leica taking pictures. I spoke with various people a couple of UBC students who have started a new group called "Bearded Feminist's" that addresses men's concerns. I spoke with some survivors of sexual assault. I also chatted with some representatives of the Democratic party of the United States.

Overall it was a positive experience for me and am glad that I was able to attend. I did not see anybody wearing pro life hats or anything and no riots erupted.

Of course they were coordinated. I may have gone too, but I just got back from Montreal a week ago and the return trip was harrowing with everything the weather could throw at us. We had harsh rain, fog, freezing rain, hail, then a blizzard with ice beneath the snow. The trip in winter usually takes about 6 hours. It was now about 8.

As for Donald Trump, I have a long list of names I could call him, none of them that he would like, that if for sure. Canada is not perfect, as is any country and knowing that is what keeps the government on its toes but my gosh, I'm so glad I do not live in your country and have that idiot as my president. Whoa. I hope he is the wake-up call to everyone that when it's time to vote, don't just lean back and think you know what will happen. Get your keister off the couch and vote.

Desperate Democrats

The democratic party will be traveling a difficult road ahead. Citizens will soon be tired of seeing homeless people sleeping under signs that read "Refugees Welcome".

Explain! which citizens of which country will be upset?

Here in the USA, most people are sympathetic to DACA kids and refugees as this country is built on the presmise that the influx feeds the engine of the society with renewed vigor, competition and folk will ing to work extra hard to get the Ameriocan dream.

I know that Canada is also wonderful and a lot more liberal than us in many ways but also has, as we do, folk who can best be decribed as xenoophobic and right wing. Generally they have less educxation and lower income and more unrealized dreams.

However, my knowledge of Canada is limited to the gneral idea, that Canadians are a good lot, dont seem to want international adventures and are honest and generous.

But i do not understand you statement becuase you are not clear what folk you are referring to.

Capitalism is failing unless you believe that Mexicans are going to make "America Rich Again" Regardless of the country or the city. It would apply to citizens in Paris France, Los Angeles, Vancouver or Toronto Canada, take your pick. Its just human nature but paying taxes is a suckers game.

Yes, James,

Mexicans, Iranians, Israelis, Indians, Vietnamese, Chinese, Koreans are all better achievers, more educated and grasp all the requisite ideas to be the next leaders to drive the economy.

If you visit UC Berekley for graduation, those with "Honors-level" degrrees are foreigners or children of immigrants! Very few American Caucasians ever get to sit with the Honors group as they are not committed, competitive, focussed and energetic enough to succeed, except in sports and other social activities.

Mexican Americans, as a group, have lower crime rates, have family values and appreciate the opportunity to work hard and then come home to their families with what they earn.

Mexicans happen to provide much of the reliable skilled labor that allows factories in California to build high speed Siemens trains, Mitsubishi Mining Equipment 50 ft rock crushers or 60 ft elecrrodes for or 10 ton ladels for melting steel. Mexicans build the fuel tanks for the military and without them the fabrication capability for California would grind to a halt.

Indians are key to Silicon Valley and Los Angelels high tech companies. Israelis for imaging, robotics and automatic driving. Koreans for all electronics and the list goes on.

So yes, the immigrants are the source of our ability to exapand and renew our leadership in this increasingly technologcal world.

I just returned for Amazon Web Services "Reinvent" conference with some 40,000 paying attendies. I would estimate that at least half of the technical specialists were Asian, Indian, Israeli or other non-native English speakling people.

This company provides the brains and core infrastructure for much of modern America's commerce, Educational, industrial and technical prowess. The Stock exchanges, much of the major corporations, universities, commercial datastorage companies military and more rely on AWS ande these foreigners for keeping the economic engine of the USA advancing and competitive.

Much of Canada is equally dpeendant of these workers, driectly ir indirectly.

So I have fath in the foreginers and new immigrants.

I have little faith in ignorance and xenophobia as it cant create new industires or bring us new ideas with anything like the record of immigrants.

Immigrants work had and dont sleep in!

You paint a pretty picture akin to writing another Harry Potter book all varnished up and seen through a pair of colored glasses. However your depiction does not show the show the obvious reality of the current state of affairs. More than half of Canadians are living within $200 per month of not being able to pay all their bills or meet their debt obligations, according to a recent Ipsos survey conducted on behalf of accounting firm MNP. It's not because they are xenophobic, sleep in, or lack an education.

Ahah, Harry Potter, so that's where you are conjuring up these ideas on immigrants. Must be a bad spell!

As to people. I was not talking about Canada! It has such rich resources. Your report makes it sound more like post-Soviet Russia! You obviously need more Indians or Chinese with Education and competitiveness to prime the economic pumps!

The picture I paint is just about my experience of the effect of immigrants here in California! No varnish, just the ongoing success! I have no axe to grind! California is thriving!

In fact, given your claimed economic breadwinner fragility, Donald Trump should be popular there. Would you like him? Most of us here would happily send him to you if we could?

Canadians? What homeless folk are you referring to?

You made reverence to Canada several times. The report is from an Ipsos survey and a large accounting firm, not from me. California is up against a wall of debt. If it were not for some fantastic accounting gymnastics your state would have been bankrupt a long time ago.

The Democrats have lost not only the election but also their identity. They are still scratching their heads trying to figure out why. Meanwhile Trump has achieved a great deal in his first year of office and has proven to be successful at winning.

The only hero I have is my Mom! Just my own observations but it beats standing in the rain and pretending that it isn't raining.

James

Well, James, unless you are standing in the pouring rain and think you have an umbrella, which you do not!

BTW, Museums are collecting some of these banners and signs for posterity! Could be some $$ one could make if you happened to pick up a few as souvenirs!
