Default What purpose does it serve?

What purpose does having an ' invisible ' mode serve when a member logs on?

One can browse the forums without logging in.

Why hide a member's identity when posting?

There could be a very valid reason for this option, but I fail to see its benefits or need.

I think it "comes with the forum software". Perhaps it can be eliminated, perhaps not.

I guess in some forums there is a point to it.

There are many odd things here, like labeling the "user ID" field "real name" (even though here the "rule" is that the user ID should be one's real name in some sense).

Best regards,
