My World: On hand polished imaging devices..

I am surprised that the recently introduced Leica T did not generate any comments!

My opinion of that camera is that it is a hohum, mediocre product targeted at the fashion conscious. I have no need for it at the MRSP.

While discussing it with my son, a interventional radiologist, I mentioned that the Leica T frame is mentioned as being hand polished for 45 minutes. That it beautifully made. Unibody design ala Apple.
I mentioned the Leica lenses. And repeated all the marketing talk. Back to basic photography...but wasn't the Nikon DF supposed to be that?, he asked.

Dad, he said, I can use your basic photography MP, M7 or the digital Ms with the Leica lenses you have.
The rangefinder experience is Leica.

Come he said. So he took me on round of his professional equipment. Fit for purpose and meticulously designed and produced. Beauty has its place..but to me, he added, imaging is more than job..it really is a question of life or death. Not snapshots for the status seekers.

Different strokes for different people and purpose.

Well, Fahim,

You missed my vain attempt to bring representative test images to us! I did try out the camera, here!

A good thing is the Saudi penchant for channeling wealth to the health services. This gear is expensive but each "snap" actually helps a lot of people. It provides the tools to allow well trained native specialists to work in their home country serving their own people. The presence of such a capability generates so many jobs for ancillary health care workers and folk supporting the facility with transport, building maintenance, food services, nursing and more. It enables the presence of all other specialists so that the correct diagnosis and treatment can be delivered.

All this by an advanced camera.

The new Leica, OTOH, is a beauty in finish, but hardly competes with a Ricoh GXR or Sony fitted with any Leica rangefinder lens you have lying around. I tried it out and they changed their mind and so far have not sent me the many pictures I took!

Still, it won't help the world or advance photography in any significant way!
