My World: Play Squash, do you? Big Time?

Not your executive country club game.

I mean with the Big Boys. The World Class Players.

Not an half hour pussy footing around the court.

I mean Big Time..

I know someone who does. Says it goes with mountain climbing.

Says a little more demanding than my photographic composition rules.

p.s Says I should stick to my genteel ' art ' of photography. To avoid strain.

Fahim,

I play. Well I haven't played for a couple of years now but in my head I still play and I'm sure the day will come where I dust off my bat (racquet in case you didn't register my facetiousness), strap up my busted arsed knee, strap up my busted arsed ankles and try once and for all to perfect my till now pathetic drop shot.
I don't doubt that you possess a mean and deadly drop shot. I suspect it's in your blood, the great drop shot artistes have names like Jounis, Mohibulla, you know what I mean.

I was a gun. Played at a pretty high level, had a smooth and wicked backhand, a wonderful stretch, inate fitness, low centre of gravity (long arms and torso, shorter, stocky, strong yet flexible legs), I could scunge my way back into a lost rally through grit and persistence.
i had the very great pleasure of being on court with two superb world champions, Geoff Hunt and Sarah Fitzgerald, don't get me wrong they whipped my sorry arse and I was far from their unbelievably elite league but I grew up in Melbourne where they both resided and played my squash at 'Hunt's' squash centre.

If only I had a decent drop shot,....one day!

Hello Andy.

The only thing I can play is the DVD ( with some difficulty ).
The wife does play. No, not anywhere near as good as those you mention.
But not a walkover either. Now she and me are both slowing down with age. Her play. My
watching. I fall asleep!!

We used to go to a village outside of Melbourne for some serious practice.

I do hope you pick up your bat! Get your ankle tied. Get on the court, and whip a few.

Andy, thanks for sharing this with us. Maybe we could get on the court for a few ' drop shots '!!

Kindest regards.

p.s I seem to remember seeing a lot of signatures of ' names ' on rackets/balls/sweatbands..around the house. Some pictures too! Mr. Hunt is there!!

Fahim, which village near Melbourne did you frequent?

I now live on the far south coast of New South Wales, almost halfway between Melbourne and Sydney on the coast.

I know you're a travel fiend so if you're in this neck of the woods, let me know, we can have a game
or a glass of wine or a barbecue and I can show you where to find swamp wallabies or lace monitors.

Do you remember when Geoff Hunt was at the twilight of his stellar career and Jahangir Khan was about to take over his mantle at the top of world squash. They had an epic two hour battle for the world crown (or was it the British Open?)which Hunt won by drawing on all his experience.
Khan went on to greatness only to be overshadowed by the genius of Jansher Khan.

Cheers, Andy

Rosewood or is it Rosebud. Was one of them. Then about 10kms from there there was another one. The youngest son was being trained for the Big League.

I have pictures of my wife with Jahangir and Hashim. And Jonathan Powers. And that British fellow
Peter ?.

Then there were the Egyptians. I was the reluctant escort to see them play!!

After one of the training trip, we went over to Sydney. She had to climb the ' Bridge '.

Yes sir, good times were a rolling.

Thank you for the offer Andy. I have not visited New Zealand. Going over there from here is via
Melbourne or Sydney..usually.

That might offer an opportunity to link up. I would like that.

Take care Andy. And thanks.
