Hello from the UK

Hi everyone, I was invited by Mike Spinak to check out these forums. I've only had a little time to explore so far, but it looks very much 'up my street' so to say! I love photography, in particular abstract nature macros. I have also specialised in 'painting with light'. I have experimented with LF (4x5 Toyo Monorail) but I am afraid I couldn't get on with wasting so many expensive sheets of film so now I stick to my Canon DSLR (5D). I use fixed lenses only, and recently purchased a long-awaited MP E-65. Now I can't afford to get a macro flash so I'll have to wait before producing some pics with broader dof. I am a big fan of very shallow abstract macros though, so am still having fun until a macro flash joins my kit range.

I will have to read a few more pages here, but in the meantime 'HI TO ALL'!!!

ps where are the smilies???

Aloha, LittleG!

I'm glad to see that you came. Welcome. I look forward to your participation.

Now I can't afford to get a macro flash so I'll have to wait before producing some pics with broader dof.

Until you can get the macro flash ring, perhaps you can get broad DOF (well... "broad" for greater than 1x probably means a millimeter or two) with the MP E-65 and a regular flash by shooting your subjects backlit?

On an unrelated subject: Since this forum normally requests that people use their full real names, unless they have a darn good reason not to, I want to pre-emptively let the administrators know that LittleG has a very solid reason for using a pseudonym. I won't make personal matters public, but I want Asher, Michael, and Nicolas to know that I can vouch that LittleG's reason for using a pseudonym is legitimate and should be respected.

At least we have a link to Little G's website (with really beautifull pics by the way) so we know that Little G knows what he/she speaks about...

Hi Mike,

Yes it's good to find a lot of other people with whom to share common interests, tips & tricks, or just plain enthusiasm. Thanks for directing me here.

Ah yes, well I need to order an off-camera cord for my 550EX, other wise it is too high to effect the subject. I have tried some backlit subjects in natural light, on about 800 iso. Unfortunately though, there is still slight motion blur handheld. Tripods don't give me the freedom for angles etc, and alsowith such shallow dof I cannot move into focus so freely.

It's early days with my MP E-65, so I will let you know how I'm getting on in the Macro/Micro forum later on.

Ciao for now.

Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for the compliment on my website pics - and I'm a 'she' (a little 'she' as you might have guessed) :)

I have yet to check out other members' work yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks for this Mike. I don't really enjoy the cloak and dagger bit at all, and I do have my full name and info on my website, but because live forums are interactive they easily attract unwanted attention from persistent 'internet stalkers', and individuals are easy to find on forums when using full names in the search engines.

Just thought I better explain for others.

May I call you Irene? just an idea because I like Leadbelly's "Irene Good Night" and your light painting give me the mood of hearing that wonderful voice and 6 string guitar of one of the father's of the Blues.

I welcome you, and hope to enjoy your creative input. Whenever you find a really special gallery, send me a PM, as I am having trouble visiting each and every website. I do try in between jobs to get to as many as I can!

Hello Asher. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Sure, call me Irene if you wish! It would certainly be a novelty for me, especially as my photography inspired you to play particular music. Thank you very much for such a compliment.

What sort of 'special' galleries are you interested in Asher?
