He was an amateur musician as well. Good thing he didn't join this forum. He'd have been shredded. As for his influence, he certainly changed my views on the music of the time. Yuck!

For a minute I thought you were implying Lou Barlow from Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh had died...Sorry, I've come to this thread a little late...

I like the guy and enjoy his music he made with the VU, I didn't like his solo stuff though even though I tried to appreciate it.

Michael Stipe from REM who I admire a great deal too is an amateur photographer and has released a book of his photographs taken while on tour a couple of years ago with Patti Smith. Although, in my view, they're pretty atrocious...
