Leica CL

Leica announces the new mirrorless CL. An APS-C sensor camera with built-in EVF. Code name ' CLooney '.
Plus a few lenses.

Very beautifully built. Wonderful news for some.

Some on the Leica forum have suggested it is very CLever.

I think it shall fit right between the CLevage and be hard to CLone, since it uses the Maestro 2 processor.

Fahim,

I do love the Leica family and their cameras!

Still, what is the practical argument for this new camera beyond the elegant provenance. In what way would it be objectively more useful then another premium APS C camera?

It is one of the few "released" cameras that looks like a well-crafted (and nicely finished) feasibility model. (We used to say "brassboard".)

Which means it is not at all "pompous" looking.

Best regards,

Doug

Leica never was and never shall be a value proposition.
One has to use the Leica, to understand its ethos. Maybe it is just a status symbol.
But for some, including me, it gives me joy..not matched by other cameras that I use.

What is the elegance provenance for Victoria's Secret?
And, to me, the worst part of it is, it is not on public view!! :)

As are all Leicas, Doug. Bragging rights, maybe? Others swear by it.

Best wishes.

And that is most important of all.

I imagine that there is less chance of uncorrected aberrations, either becasue the lenses are better, or because the softwere recognizes the lens and aperture used and makes the correction from lookup tables, just like Hassleblad does.

In addition, is there any evidence that Leica cameras are less likely to fail in cold weather or with general use? Are they still handmade and therefore more reliable?

Asher, last night I dreamt that I was a toad ( which is not far from reality ), but the kicker was ....wait for it.

In the distance, I saw a minuscule red shape in the form of a dot.

It began to rain, thunder, lighting...I was about to perish. The dot became a red horse. And lo and behold what I thought were some weird lettering...resolved itself into a fair maiden, with long silky flowing hair. And the dress...Chanel, Versace, a single Jewel rested between her skin and dress. I looked around..hoping for 6 more of where this came from.

Contented with one. She approached me..closer. Closer. I could smell the Anglo-Saxon Purity Mixed with
The beauty of the east... Closer still. Now I could look down deep into her..
Eyes...

oh! My prince. What have they done to you? I thought you would never come, I panted.
Kiss me, kiss me...I shall become your prince...she looked around. Looked down at me. Oh, the depth of her...feelings was obvious. Do you have a Green Card, she whispered.
I am green, I croaked.

Begone you toad..go back to Nile where you came from!!

Canada, I heard her receding voice, is an option...

As I lay dying, I wished I never believed in fairy tales. White, tan, brown, black or orange.

Fahim, put on your CPAP! And why are you hugging that earth Vader mask. Ayesha.
Give us a kiss...please. I want to believe in fairy tales.

Many many years ago (when I was a photog assistant in Paris (1974!), I had a Leica Mk1 and 2 Angenieux lens.
A marvel! I wish I had kept them :(

I don't think Leica is above crass commercialism. They decided at one point that they wanted to have a "point and shoot" offering so they just dressed up a Panasonic Lumix DMC LF-1 and called it a Leica C.

Peter,

Isn't this more about maintaining "price points" for developing brand loyalty?

Unfortunately Nicolas, cleavage has not retained the charm for me as it once did.
I have climbed out of them.

Cleavage is a con! It's just a space with no significance like the gap in a parking lot between twin Lamborghinies!

Not much happening there!

Licked...my way back!

Nicolas, Asher is going to have a private talk with me, if I continue in this vein.
His tastes are different than mine.
He thinks of empty spaces...parking spaces.

My tastes tend to veer on discreet smells of parfum, the accelerated sounds of heartbeats..purrrr of the heart, the rise and fall, the oh so sweet salty taste of sun kissed skin and the proud thrusts...

Take care mon ami.

Groped! I like that idea!
