With Abutilon megapotamicen. White side is hidden under the wing. They feed on nectar by piercing flowers at the base.

Peter,

The coat has a great range of purple and black metallic colors. Fabulous coat! I would love a suit like that too!

You are educating me. Bird is named for a white stripe...but it's hidden by the wing and then a bird would evolve to be able to pierce the base of a flower and get the nectar without having to suffer pollen up its nostrils, LOL!

Here, the flowers are upside down! So doesn't the nectar simply drain out before the bird arrives?

Thank you Asher and Wolfgang. Asher that's a good question but I think the nectar is sufficiently viscous that it adheres to the inside of the flower.
