Guys, your points are well taken on the first image. Cutting the fielder off at the waist is a bit disconcerting. If he was in the frame as shot it would almost certainly be better to leave him intact. But I'm betting he was not.
The more traditional (or at least more often-seen) version of this image has the fielder coming down and putting the tag on the runner as he slides in. In a perfect world, you have both players' faces and the glove and the base all in the frame — and you can crop even tighter than what we see here.
Aside from being slightly off-kilter, I think Jeff's done most of what he can with this particular frame — other than, just maybe, cropping even tighter still on the sliding runner so as to de-emphasize the fielder.
Jeff the easier (i.e., higher percentage) way to get this shot is on the pitcher's pickoff move to first base. You can sit just outside the fence (or inside if you're brave as you're really in danger in this position), or better yet lie prone so you're right down on the same level with the baserunner.
