WTF

Why is a moderator needed to read my post before allowing it to be visible in the ' Provocative thoughts..etc ' forum.

Is this to provoke a response from me?
OPF has become a censored forum...shame on Asher and the moderators for not trusting their members.
Or just wanting members to subscribe to their values! Bullshit!

p.s I get it. One has to abide by the Judeo-Christain, Anglo-Saxon, Wasp values and sensibilities..else the
gods of Mordor shall strike you down!

It is getting worse here.

p.s. Apologies. I forgot to mention some...

The Agonstics
The Atheists...hedging their bets, waiting to see which side wins; like I often hedge my futures trades on the CBOE.
Lastly, there is the ' all others ' group. Me falling into one of those. A minority group.

My apologies, once again for forgetting the minorities!!

P.S NOW THEY HAVE REMOVED THE WHOLE THREAD!! WHOOSH..GONE!!

What thread's missing?

We just don't do that!

I will try to locate the issue if someone can tell me what is missing.

James lost something similar and wrote to me, quite strongly too, "Sorry, found it!"

Could be we have a hacker?

Send me a note as to what vanished.

Asher

P.S. If I have indeed committed any of what you listed, I am wrong and did it with no malintent.

Ahah, Fahim!

Found your missing post!

It was awaiting moderation.

Provocative Thoughts and Images: May be offensive NSFW, Nudity/moral/political issues! All posts in that section are moderated and have been for over 10 years. Usually the post is approved fast enough.

It is just we have had racist, vulgar or religiously intolerant or other demeaning comments or abuse of others that have been moved to a vault. I have never as far as I remember had to remove any post from here. I did remove a page-sized image in the first week in 2006. It was picture of an act that most would agree was obscene. I would also agree that some folk might find acceptable what others would exclude. However, in 11 years, the number of images removed has been less than countable on one hand. I only recall just two.

The section that is moderated is to allow unpopular thought. It is there so one can indeed post as one wills, only, not children in some potentially abusive state or purpose. That, we'd report.

The main idea is to ALLOW in that whole section, a lot of content that adults of all cultures might discuss. It just warns someone, like a very religious person, that here, we are more tolerant of what might be normally impolite in polite company or in the workplace.

I doubt we have ever moved anything you would not agree with. First we are so rarely removing anything here, unless it is a personal insult, for example against a member here or when someone disparages "all Hispanics" and the like. I know that Nicolas Claris feels the same and is a champion of free speech.

Fahim,

I now see your post at the end of Jerome's thread. Is this the thread you say was "missing"?

My apologies, but there is, functionally and by intent, no censorship here.

Further more, anyone is free to call me to account if I give the impression of not using the TOS in a reasonable and fair way.

Yes, you do. Or OPF does. Or did it in this instance.

Miraculously the thread has suddenly re- appeared.!,

Not me! The thread is always in the Forum where it was started. If one goes here to the page with all listed sections, every thread ever started is there. That is permanent.

Most common reason for moving a post: An individual post, accidentally posted in the wrong thread of several current threads, is moved to the proper place. When a completely new interesting topic is created in someone's active thread, that conversation is moved to create a new active thread, as this keeps both topics going! As an example a post on color in Antonio Correia's thread on "Pictures of Wife's", was moved to the current thread on "Color Perception", here

In addition there is a convenient notation, "Recent Posts". That is a computer generated list of the latest activity. Older threads with no recent answers get displaced as the list grows longer. If a dormant thread is responded to, the vBulletin software recognizes that and that vintage thread is now advanced to the top of the "Recent Posts" list! So once your new post is accepted in the system, (when approved, if need be), the vintage dormant thread "reappears" in the "Recent Posts" listing.

However, when you look at any thread, you have the option to be notified by email as new posts are made. You just have to check that box.

Further, if you think something "vanished", just call on me to hunt it down.

Any suggestions to make this work better without causing folk frustration would be appreciated!

Asher well done. My only question is why you always describe your self as "we". Who else are you?

Peter,

The philosophical decisions here are a reflection of group sentiment. I have relied on others often to sort out policies. Sometimes I ask several folk as to the right course for a particular clash of wills. So still, I act generally on my own, as a self-appointed "guardian" of the sense of community's identity and wishes.

So that is the reference for "we".

Fahim, just for your own clarity, the atheists are not hedging their bets or sitting on any fence. They have an extremely clear view of nature, the world and spirituality.
Out of the 4,000 odd revered deities they adhere to none. Approximately 3,999 less than than you or any other devout person. They tend to live life in awe of the complexity of life and in full appreciation of the blessing that it is and also tend to have a somewhat refreshing acceptance that life as a human is essentially finite and make the most of each and every moment knowing it may well be their last.

I'm part of this we!
It happens that Asher ask my advice on some "difficult" balance to find…
I can certify that Asher is always looking for the right attitude and always trying to find soft and balanced solutions and acts toward difficult to judge situation and OPF members posts.
It happens that I do not agree with Asher on some political or religion things (I'm severely atheist) but we always respect each other as do Asher with ALL OPF members.

That human life is essentially finite is a fact. We all die.
Thank you for your explanation. To each their own.

Dieties, in the common vernacular as I understand it, were or are considered by many as gods.
The Greeks had numerous dieties; as did the ancient Egyptians and Hindus etc.
‘ the one diety ‘ referred to by some is not a diety. But that needs considerable time for discussion.

I read with interest your use of the words ‘appreciation ‘ and ‘ blessing ‘. Think about it.

But my main argument stands. The thread under the title ‘ provocative thoughts etc.,’ vanishes and then
reappears. Not withstanding Asher’s justifications, there is a glitch in that section..out of design or bad
sw coding practices, I do not know. And there was no mention of moderator interference when I posted.
Maybe it escaped me.

Andy, despite your lucid explanation, let’s not forget that Nicolas and yourself, as most others on OPF are shaped by the Anglo-Saxon, Judeo-Christian values. Not a criticism, just a fact.
And as such, the values of the moderators are invariably biased as a result of their environment.

Just as mine are; by mine.

Thanks.

Fahim,

There is no glitch! Just like a cola vending machine, there is a process, or the machine wont translate your money to a refreshing drink!

Here there is no action against you. Your post wasn't censored in any way!

It has zero to do with Western culture bias. (Actually You could just as easilly argue that much Arab culture is built in to Western culture anyway!)

The truth is that you saw an interesting old thread and added a post. Normally that would activate that thread once more and it would reappear at the top of "Recent Posts". Since you posted in a moderated the thread, your post had to be moderated. That is the bargain made in allowing topics that would not occur in polite settings, where NSFW would be disruptive and out of place. We also have a legal obligation to monitor risk areas in the forum for child pornography and obvious bias.

If you, or anyone else, have any new idea for this process, let me know. If I am being too strict, let me know. If anyone feels they can do a better job as moderator for this section, let me know too.

I must admit, I would rather you just complain something is not working that conflate this with some imagined bias.

Unconscious bias (= that the person with the bias is not aware of) can influence decisions in recruitment, promotion, and performance management.

James,

?, you moved from "Perception of Light" to informing a Jew what bias is!

I am likely one of the few here, perpetually enraged by that vision of 6 year old Catholic girls, holding hands in pairs, in school uniform, bravely marching between two lines of angry Northern Ireland "Orange order" women screaming, "Whores, Mary-lovers!" and spitting on them.

I am likely the only person here who had a police escort to walk to school, as Orthodox Jews wear hats and were identified by ruffian youths who would brutally attack us!

You really think you can tell me something about "bias" by quoting from a dictionary!

The entire idea of moderation here, (in just the one section someone chooses to post), is to exclude cruel bias, (in addition to excluding child porn). Otherwise the "moderation" is not needed! Tom's insults to Arabs especially and cruelty to Maggie, were the main reasons he was finally removed.

Others would allow his rants, as as we could crush him, with all his rich language. But it sullied the place! I was probably the most disappointed, as I enjoyed his photography.

There are no software "glitches", no malintent, just a desire to allow freedom of thought while protecting the dignity of this community. All faiths and no faiths are equal here as long as no bias is shown!

If you two guys would just do the Christian thing . . .

Just a little holiday leg-pulling.
