OPF resizing images

Hi,

Am I the only one seeing this? OPF is resizing images that I post to about 125% making them look soft. Driving me crazy.

Not getting this on other forums.

Thanks!

Ben,

That's puzzling indeed! Please send me a file for which you have the URL here and the URL elsewhere as an example. editorDOTopfATmac.com

That's hard to imagine. For example, what were the pixel dimensions of some file you linked to, and what pixel dimensions does it exhibit on-screen at OPF?

Hi, Ben,

I don't know if your fabulous pic 'dad&carmelle' is one that suffers this affliction, but I looked into it. The image to which you linked is 800 x 533 px.

Of course its onscreen pixel dimensions when I view it depends on the magnification to which my browser is set.

When I set my browser for the default magnification (which I don't usually do, especially for OPF, since it makes the text too small), it is 800 x 533 onscreen.

I don't find that "OPF" does anything to the images. It seem to deliver them to the browser as is. There is nothing in the incoming HTML code that calls for any "resizing" in the browser:

<div align="center"><img src="http://www.studio-beni.net/dad&carmelle.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></div><br />

Of course the browser won't necessarily put them on the screen at 1:1 (depending on what you tell it to do, magnification-wise).

It may be that the OPF style imposes a rather small font size. It may be that this leads you to set your browser to a high magnification on the OPF site, which may be the cause of the phenomenon you mention.

Best regards,

Doug

I was noticing it on all the threads on OPF I was visiting. It could be the magnification, I've reduced the magnification so that the image looks right but the text is indeed very small.

Yes, that is consistent with what I experience here.

I don't know the best way to avert it

Asher: is it possible that the font size defined by the style that governs OPF pages (absent the user telling their browser to follow their "house style") should be increased because of this situation? I am not anywhere nearly enough familiar with how that works to come to a conclusion myself (I don't even know how the "site style" is invoked), but I'm sure that others here know a lot about it.

Best regards,

Doug

Ooh! My browser (Firefox) on the View menu has an option "zoom text only".

A very quick check (I am rushing to leave for a doctor's appointment) suggests that this can be very useful in this matter.

Doug the standard font size of OPF is 10pt. This should not be too small unless one is working with a very high dpi monitor or has eye-sight problems. One can use the Firefox browser which offers the "zoom text only" option. It is then possible to enlarge the text while keeping the images at their original size. Ctrl-0 resets the resizing. Ctrl-+ enlarges it. Ctrl-- reduces the size.

Edit: just saw that we were posting about the FF at the same time.

Hi, Ben,

Thanks Stuart!
Yes, that should work well.

Do note that you may wish to turn "Zoom text only" off for some other sites. It can screw some things up.

Sadly, Firefox will not (that I know of) remember a separate choice by site for this mode (as it does for the zoom level itself).

Best regards,

Doug
