Upload Corruption

Anyone help with this please?

I have a major problem after I upload picyures from an external device (camera/external hard drive).

Initially all looks great when opened on my PC, however, after I close PC and then restart, a number of the pictures are corrupted.

i.e. half or part of the image has a different contrast an colour or a line across the image means the top half does not quite fit the bottom half - a slight out of sync view.

I can upload to PC and then transfer to external hard drive where the images are fine.

This has been the same with different cameras.

I have used various software packages.

I have re-installed the windows operating system.

I have tried to upload in smaller files.

I have spent literally hours onto BT specialists with no success.

Any help gratefully received

Thanks in advance

Alistair

Hi Alistair,

We'll try and help you but we must have some specifics first.
The following info is the least we shall need:
- your OS and the Service Pack
- the external device(s) you are uploading from
- the external card reader you are using
- the upload program you are using
- the program you use to view the uploaded pictures on the PC
- the program with which you process the pictures on the PC

If I understand you correctly, the images get corrupted after a restart of the PC, but are fine if they are copied to another external drive. How do you know that? Did you open them on another PC via the external drive? If so, what was different (OS, viewer, etc)?

Please give as much info as possible. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this :).

Cheers,

PS: Welcome to OPF, BTW. Do not forget to introduce yourself properly in the "introduce yourself" forum.

So did you find a solution yet? If so, we would like to know what was the problem and how you've solved it. Otherwise, just give us a shout and provide the background info if you want us to help find a solution.

Cheers,

Details Requested

Hi Cem,

Thanks for reply - I have tried to answer your questions.

- your OS and the Service Pack - Windows XP
- the external device(s) you are uploading from - Fuji Finepix S1000fd and an Iomega External Media hardive
- the external card reader you are using - USB connection
- the upload program you are using - Windows fax and photo viewer although I have used Adobe Photshop, Picassa and Finepix with the same results.
- the program you use to view the uploaded pictures on the PC - Windows fax and photo viewer although I have used Adobe Photshop, Picassa and Finepix with the same results.
- the program with which you process the pictures on the PC - ?

I upload to the external drive before closing the PC. If I view the external files through the PC (even after restart) they are fine. Theyonly corrupt on the PC after restart.

If I can give any more info please ask and I will do my best to provide.

Thanks in advance

Best wishes

Alistair
