Default What is it?

Well, it is not a tree, for sure, and certainly not tree bark. But maybe it is a tree after all. This is a shot of an sandy embankment near Akaoroa Harbor, the South Island, NZ. I was taken with the patterns and colors, almost like an abstract painting on the wall. One might speculate that there is a process of degradation and maybe something like fossilization, to explain what looks like cross sections of tree limbs or roots.
