On second look, you've done well in capturing this shot, it's a great photograph. I like how the words in the window compound his/ her incongruous or odd dress sense. It presents a great contrast too...

I think it looks very clean as a piece of 'street photography'. I would 'dirty' it up with some film grain, deepen the shadows and brighten the highlights. You might lose some detail in the shadows that way but nothing a little selective 'dodging' won't sort out...

Welcome to OPF. Excellent and very unusual image indeed. I like the tension between the woman wearing a protective mask and the bunch of men happily chatting away over a cup of coffee.

What an interesting image, James. The store name really does bring the entire scene together. Welcome!
I see you are from Canada, eh? /joking because I am too! ;-)

Thank you for the feedback Paul! I think I know what you mean by a clean piece of street photography but am not sure.

For me personally I will crop, straighten, burn, dodge and do basic exposure adjustments if necessary. Grain certainly doesn't bother me but I don't remove anything from an image nor do I like to dress an image up with any special effects. Had I shot this in a different environment with a high ISO, i.e., at night, grain in the image would be perfectly fine. I usually try to shoot as wide open as possible regardless of the light. I feel that adding grain would take away from the character and integrity of the image. Although it does feel like there is always a trade-off.

James,

I always wonder what on earth those mask are for! They don't protect against any smog, germs, just against someone spitting in your face, or spraying ketchup up your nose as they struggle to open a pesky plastic package.

I like the picture very much and feel so sorry for the many people who walk around in bubbles. That means almost all of us, some of the time!

Thank you Asher! You raise a good question. I am thinking that the masks would filter airborne particulates ,things like dust and such . Maybe she has asthma or something ?

I wanted to ask a few questions to Paul about his comments. I have started a new thread here in order to prevent polluting this one.

Welcome James.

Excellent street capture. It could very well be that the guy/gal has an infection and has a mask as a courtesy to others!!

Regards.

Fahim,

That might work, but the courtesy part is very welcome anyway. From my questioning, it usually comes from folk thinking they're protected against smog, pollen and the like. For that one needs a sealed face mask with specific filters.

Still, this picture is made by the mask, it sort of clinches the deal!
