Embedding "locally held" images in forum messages *

The New OPF forum affords the opportunity for us to include an image in a forum message without first having it hosted on a site someplace. At first, this didn't work for ordinary members (only for those in the nomenklatura), but now (with a great deal of tedious work on Asher's part, section by section), it seems to be generally available.

Uploading an image file held on your computer system for inclusion of the image in a post

Have the cursor in your message where you want the image embedded.

Click on the Attach Files button below the composition window. Navigate to the desired file and do Open or the equivalent. You will see a thumbnail of the image, with two buttons, Thumbnail and Full image. The latter, despite its name, actually causes the image to be included in a fairly large display size.

In either case, the image will display at the left margin (and you will see it in the composition window). If you want the image centered, click in the blank space on teh screen to the right of teh image as seen. On the main toolbar (at the top of the composition screen), take the dropdown on the Alignment tool (looks like this):

308

and select the middle icon, "Align center".

If you wish to change the size of the image as displayed, click on the image and then drag one of the corner "handles" to give the desired size.

Embedding in a message an image Copy-ed from an application

Copy the image however you have to do that.

Have the cursor in your message where you want the image embedded.

Do Edit>Paste from the Windows menu (or the corresponding thing on a Mac system).

The image will be deposited, essentially at a pixel-for-pixel size (maybe), at the left margin. You can then center it and/or change its size as described above.

Either way

Either way, we can end up easily with something like this:

307

This is a long-awaited and wonderful capability. Kudos to Asher and to the many others who brought this about.

Best regards,

Doug

Thanks Doug, for explaining so well image insertion procedures and centering.

In summary, 4 methods are now available in all threads to insert images in a post.

1. “Media” icon ? (B&W) in the dialog box

2. “Landscape” icon ? (B&W) in the diallog box

3. “Attach Files” Button below dialog box

4. Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, etc operating systems “Paste” wherever you have the text insertion cursor. Simply select an image or text from whatever program you wish and paste it exactly where that cursor sits

Then you can select what you inserted and center it by either the tool in the dialog box top edge, or the additional set of tools, (appearing below the image), when you click on that image and a thin gray resizing box appears, enclosing your added image.

IOW, if you can copy something in your phone, tablet or computer, then you can insert that into the active typing position in the OPF message dialog box.

All without code! (y)

Hi, Asher,

Thanks for the additional information.
Thanks Doug, for explaining so well image insertion procedures and centering.

In summary, 4 methods are now available in all threads to insert images in a post.

1. “Media” icon ? (B&W) in the dialog box

By way of clarification, here, that icon is found on the dropdown of the"Insert" icon, which itself looks like this:

318

Then the "Media" icon looks like this:

320

2. “Landscape” icon ? (B&W) in the diallog box

Here, I have no such icon. I do have an "Insert image" icon, which looks like this:

319

3. “Attach Files” Button below dialog box

4. Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, etc operating systems “Paste” wherever you have the text insertion cursor. Simply select an image or text from whatever program you wish and paste it exactly where that cursor sits

Then you can select what you inserted. . .
Not quite. If you click on the image, the icons on the mail toolbar are not active; you must click instead to the right of the image.

. . . and center it by either the tool in the dialog box top edge, or the additional set of tools, (appearing below the image). . .

No. Oddly enough, that little toolbox does not include a "center align" tool.

. . . when you click on that image and a thin gray resizing box appears, enclosing your added image.

IOW, if you can copy something in your phone, tablet or computer, then you can insert that into the active typing position in the OPF message dialog box.

All without code! (y)

Thanks.

Best regards,

Doug
