very splendid tom ! your flash work on the added touch is particularly fine...and the detail is outstanding...plus the colors :) while i enjoy the ridge line details across the upper left i am not sure it adds to the com position, it might even distract... either way i love this!!

    Plowden Inspired

asher has covered a lot of the the composition pluses to this, so i will just add that what caught my eye immediately - thanks to the excellent composition! - was the colors, especially of the train. that yellow really stands out against the rest of the tonal palette in this, and works well...

    Plowden Inspired

true i'd forgotten about that :( but a couple of years ago i did a shoot of a superfund site - for historic reasons not environmental - and the police did come...however they were very understanding and suggested to me that in the future if i stopped by the station first and announced myself...

    Plowden Inspired

tom, these colors in your last train post are outstanding! the sheer clarity of the train itself provides a telling contrast to them...and a very fine composition too. the overcast light breathed perfectly here for you! this is an excellent example too of shooting when things are past peak, or...

SO what do you do with your photos after

like mike and cem i am a bit of a paper freak :) and that has been one of my book issues. i love printing my stuff and am particular about paper. like mike i've been using ilford gfs and like the way it's warm tone flatters my warm tones. in this country it was half the price of the harmon ai...

SO what do you do with your photos after

what i love most to do with my macro/landscape images is to print them myself (large!) and frame them, for display/sale. my smaller test prints go into a small sampler portfolio. many also go to web useage of various types (websites, email blasts, etc.) as the clients need, as well as posters...

    Macro

i shoot most of the time with the 180mm and the 100mm on a 5d. i'd call what i do more intimate closeup than traditional macro, and i tend to print large so i prefer the dedicated lens. i love the color and quality of both thoise lenses. extension tubes and the 1.4x and 2x tele-extenders are...

Framing Prints, mattes: Techniques and Sources!

i've been dealing with these issues recently as i have a show opening next week. it is in the courtyard of a small specialty store mall and i was asked (and hosted) by the store owners to show there. i work with a framer. i have a preferred frame choice that we have been using for a while...

i too love that "eager to get to the computer and process" feeling that comes with nailing it kathy :) enjoy it - hopefully it will make you smile while doing taxes!

    Some low light LAX

still up to your usual high standards nil (!!), although i would agree that 1/400 does seem a touch slow for the furious pace of lax, but when there is no other good choice it's perfect!! and amazingly clean at this size for 3200! how large can you print a good one?? i shoot my first game of...

    Soccer season is here ...

LOL that's what makes processing fun :))) at least for me! on my monitor the whites look brighter and the black shorts look blockier...well, no worry since no parent will be buying this - i work for the team in the white shirt!

    Soccer season is here ...

thanks for the suggestion. i had already done a round of de-hazing to get it where it was - your version looks too black on my monitor, a look i try to avoid. your wb does have more "bite" to it, but i tend to favor warmer wb, rightly or wrongly LOL! i hadn't done any curves on it yet, this...

    Lunar Eclipse Feb 20th-21st

thanks for the reminder colleen! last august the night was perfect, but of course the east coast wasn't getting the full eclipse because sunrise occurred in the middle of it :( i did manage to do a time lapse over my harbor with the moon going down as the shadow came over it, with the early...

    Soccer season is here ...

yep, through the glass :) some rinks are better than others LOL!! the bad glass shots look like the old 30's+40's films that were shot with vaseline on the lens...it's a challenge but the shots from ice level are worth it.

    Soccer season is here ...

hi nil! great shots as usual - that first one really grabs the attention fast :))) i like #3 alot too. however, as much as i lust for lacrosse season to start (not all of us shoot soccer LOL!) so i can stop shooting at iso 1600 it is still a good month + away, at least for outdoors...and so we...

    I CAN learn!

rachael, good job on hanging in and working at it...it's always a wonderful feeling when you realize you're truly getting the handle on something :) and now when you start working with the macro lens all these concepts will be magnified - literally and figuratively! - and you will be tackling...
