A bird made the shot

Anne and I took off on a 300 mile drive around Southern Ontario yesterday afternoon - following the road along a couple of the Great Lakes. I had my camera with me, but for the most part it stayed in the trunk of the car, unless i came across something interesting. It turned out that there wasn’t much that caught my eye enough to give me incentive to pull it out - and I was fine with that - just enjoying the drive and the time with my honey.

We stopped at a little beach area for a coffee break. Walking along the pier I grabbed a couple of shots, but they didn’t really do anything for me. Figuring I’d capture this reflection in the water of a small Lighthouse, all of a sudden a bird took off and I managed 2 frames. This one worked for me.

The final stretch of our drive, brought us to another small port town. I was really hoping that I could capture a lot of light trails using the Live Composite Mode on my Olympus camera.

Anne and I headed out onto the pier and I set up my tripod aiming back toward the Lighthouse with the town in behind. Unfortunately the town was dead - no cars - no people - and the lights were pretty well out on all buildings…

Then all of a sudden we see on the camera screen a white streak forming in the background underneath the bridge. It took a couple of minutes before we could recognize what the light source was - first thought maybe a car, then a motorcycle, then recognize a guy riding a bicycle with a little white light on the front, coming down the walk path and past us —- it took him about 3 or 4 minutes to reach where we were standing.

Getting back home I was kind of uninspired to even bother processing the shot - - - but ended up taking out electric lines, brightening areas with no light and adding some fake flares to salvage something out of my day, before heading to bed about 1:30am. The result is a little cliche, but works.
