In Perspective, Fun: A City Collage

Two isolated photos I found, that go well (?) together: luxury apartment buildings in Manhattan´s Upper East Side, and members of the SEIU Local 32BJ, the union of building service workers in New York, during a demonstration in the same area.

Posted for fun but critiques are welcome too.

Ruben, your city image is an awesome shot, what a sprawl!! This photo really has impact for me, it makes me think of Berenice Abbott's photographs.

This photograph needs to be on a wall!

Ruben,

I'm delighted with this examination of your own work. Try to find a few more if you can and then wrtie down what they mean to you and plan a hunt for more. This is an excellent start for a quest. Such is the generation of many of the most satisfying photography shows: examining what you have, getting clarity and planning how to learn more of demonstrating the physicality of your unique appreciation of what's around you and what your mind might be dong about these concepts. It involves 4 sets of interviews: this work and others like them from your shoes boxes, envelopes and hard drives, your mind as to the significance of these you, the worlds you know and those you must explore and also perhaps other photographer's work in galleries and books where like work might be shown.

This is approaching the standards we need to make OPF really worthwhile and I appreciate you sharing your discovery of analagous form and theme in two disparate subjects.

Share with us any future plans. If you make this a project it will be satisfying, interesting and fun for everyone here!

Hi Ruben,
A most excellent duo!
If, as Asher suggests, this leans towards a project I'm anxious to see what other "couples" you may share.
Very nicely done!

I very much like your editorial concept here, Ruben. Clearly, if presented in a book these would be placed on facing pages. Photographically, the spacial compression of the long focal length creates a similar high-frequency feeling between the two.

Well seen.

Paul,
I'm so glad that you like this image that much and thanks for mentioning Berenice Abbott, great reference, I´m gonna take a closer look at her work.

Asher,
Thanks for such an enlightening advice. You are so generous with your ability to set challenges and path the way to accomplish them.

John,
Thanks so much for your kindness and support, I agree it would be a stupendous idea to develop this into a project.

Ken,
Thanks very much for stopping by. Interesting point of view regarding the editorial vision, frankly this is something I need to learn and practice more.

I'm learning from you in the process! It's a great satisfaction to see this is the beginning of a new and important part of your life. Make a plan and then publish it here. That way, like those who claim to go on a diet, and recruit friends for support, you will have some conscience to make sure you follow the hard road and reach your goals. After all, we're rooting for you. Frankly I can't wait to see you next iterations of pairing of forms with thematic links that cross major boundaries of common library classifications of how things should be grouped.
