We spent last week in Northumberland. Here are a couple of quick pictures.
First fog bound landscapes near Edlingham Church and Castle
and in St Cuthbert's chapel on Longstone Island. This is the home of the Longstone Lighthouse, made famous by the daring rescue of some crew from a sunken ship that foundered nearby by Grace Darlng and her Father. They carried out the rescue, at great risk to themsleves, in a small rowing boat during a fierce storm. Grace Darling was 21 (I believe) at the time - sadly, there is also a memorial to her follwoing her early death at age 26 of tuberculosis.
