A Horse and a Girl

I took this picture at my Uncle's house. It is my cousin's horse and my niece. I did do some cropping to isolate the horse and the girl.

Hi Jessica,

This has some good feelings in it. The picture would be improved if more of the child's face showed. Still, I like the warmth and the sense that the horse knows and like the child.

I'd almost be tempted to get rid of the fence as the repair would not be so difficult.

However, it might be that the fence hold the image together! However I'd just shoot more. Is the horse safe for the child to be next to it?

Asher,

The horse is safe enough, but all of the kids there were too scared to go past the fence, and I'm sure her mother would have killed me. I'll have to see if I can talk her into it to try to get more images similar to this one.

I like the interaction between the little girl and the horse. There is a connection there :)

However, I'm not so sure about the crop, the poor horse to the right has no head!!! <wink wink>

Also, the fence is in the way. However, I don't think it is necessary to get her to go past the fence. The girl is much smaller than the horse, so we can play around with that and exaggerate it. Try getting low enough so that the horizontal part of the fence is above the horse's head. Not only will it be out of the way, but that viewpoint will exaggerate the size of the horse, perhaps making a more powerful image.

I know, it's so easy to sit here by the computer and see all this; not so easy to see it all on location. The good thing is that you can go back!

Kris,
Thanks for the comments. You're right about trying a different angle. I'll have to find out when I can borrow my sister's kids again and take them out there for more pictures. The horses are just so beautiful and the kids are adorable.
