B&W self portrait

I've been messing around a bit more with an umbrella and a reflector. Snooted a sb699 for the background light. A quick sketch of the setup.

It is a good portrait imo. How did you focus? Or did you have assistance?

I used auto-focus and a cheap remote trigger. Also I've noticed that you can see the focus points through the lens, so I would try to position myself so I could actually see the top focus point. Sometimes it would hunt for focus but once I could see the focus point through the lens it would lock on and fire!

Nice lighting though I'd have had the brolly higher, the side shadow from the nose looks a bit strange.

Thanks for the advice. I was also thinking about bringing it closer to the camera to get the catch light off of the iris.

Hi Jake,

I agree with Ben, a higher angle for a Rembrandt style or, given the strong personality expressed in this photo, perhaps lower to the side for a split lighting.
It is a fine portrait anyway, I like it!
