Recently I had some time to kill and took a walk along the towpath from Hackney Downs to Market Street. Here are a few of the shots I took along the way

This was as close as I could get as this old warehouse and current artist's studio was on the other side of the canal.

Here are a few more from that afternoon. (Sorry I can't figure out how to format them so they stay in the middle)

Nigel,

Are these circular structures the outer frames of now unused or empty storage tanks for natural gas? 50 years ago, sewage from London was directed to massive tanks where the stuff was allowed to ferment and nascent hydrogen was fed in from below to form the gas that was stored for cooking and heating! These, perhaps, were the frames in which the giant storage tanks rose over water as they filled.

Are these the skeletons of that?

These are just the 'frames' that house gas storage tanks. When the tank is full there is a large cylinder which occupies the central part. When empty it sinks into the ground..
I shot them because I liked the shapes and the outlines

Great, that'd what I remember! I was wondering whether or not they are still in use? Also do they still have "activated sludge" farms in London to repurpose the poop of people to household gas and fill those giants?

If they do, then I have never heard ot it...although with the way the world is going, I am sure they will be looking to introduce poop-powered cars soon!

Nah, I don't think we ferment sewage at present, apart from a few brave souls on their own. One day maybe.

The frames appeal to me Nigel and the location reminds of a run I once took down there with a chap 30 years my senior who somewhat 'stretched me out'!
