Hi Jan,

This is a surprise. However, I'm open to hearing your ideas on this. I'm assuming this is meant to be attractive and enjoyable. Is it also intended to serve as art or is just a doodle or decoration you are playing with?

What photographs went into this? Could you share your rationale, trivial or ambitious or anything in between. The Kaleidoscope is an interesting way of generating many differing representations of mirrored effects, but are these of any significance to you?

Jan,

No on needs to know your "secrets"! We do want to know your rationale and goals and intentions and where it fits in with your art.

Otherwise, what is it?

Most of us do not make Kaleidoscopes except when they are tired and just before they fall asleep, if we are aware enough. Several hours watching a bright computer monitor in a dim room and lying down sitting in the dark will do that too.

So what is this project all about? Tell us! Here's what I hope to accomplish and this is what it means or serves to do. If the latter is to make 10 meter posters and you sell them, great! Just share your drive, motivations and hopes for this effort.

So Mr. Jack, you have found the key., but there is a more simple method, but I dont tell you, try it out!
Furtheron will you please explain to mr. Asher why much people like to hang an original and unique caleidoscope on their walls, but without making a good colorful picture, yoy can forget it.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for the reference. It should be this. Have you seen the PDF book? At $2 not much to risk, LOL! I wonder whether they are just decorative or contemplative or have developed to be representative too of their origins and some intent by the photographer.

Hi Jack

I wonder whether they are just decorative or contemplative or have developed to be representative too of their origins and some intent by the photographer.

Decoration is a good description. They remind me of the little spin-art things kids make at the county fairs... Is it art? Sure. Would I pay money or trade one of my own prints for one? No -- or not unless it was my own kid that made it ;-)

And before anybody draws the comparison, I think there could be a temptation to include any image with motion in the same class -- like the long-exposures from Franz Lanting, or where the lens is zoomed during exposure, or where the camera is deliberately moved during exposure -- but I don't. I find those somewhat etherial, but the better ones still maintain a referential connection to the original subject where the Kaleidoscope images usually do not.

My humble .02,

So perhaps, Jack, this kind of image might change our perception of the possibilities of the kaliedoscopic point of view. However, I do think it needs, at least, IMHO, another layer of the artist's fingerprints.

Jan thanks for posting this. It is more valuable to me than just patterns.

I think it is great that you are still learning new things and having fun doing it --- I think that is perhaps a good goal for all of us to have!

My compliments to you,
