This appears to be a dragon fly and they tend to return to the same plants as they rest from their voracious insect-on-the-wing eating patrols, where a continuous supply of insects caught with their legs is ripped up on a conveyer system to the mouth parts without the dragon fly stopping for a moment.
I consider these creatures like brutal whaling factory ships that process their catches while moving.

I agree with you about their habits. I admire these creatures and find them terrifying at the same time. Am I ever so happy I'm so much bigger than them...

The earlier stages are voracious water monsters, taking in water per anus and then jetting forward with open dislocatable jaws to grab their prey!
