close up lens for Panasonic FZ50

I've posted this elsewhere, but would like anyone's' input.

I want to get into macro in a basic way and was wondering who could give me some 'fatherly advice' on the practicality of going the inexpensive way with the Opteka 55mm Close-Up Set (+1, +2, and +4) with 10x Macro Lens that I found while browsing.
Any input would be greatly appreciated since I know that famous adage of "sometimes what cheap is dear"

Hi Mort,

I do not have the FZ50 but I wanted to chime in re. a couple of things that came to my mind.

Firstly, this camera has a limited range of really usable ISO settings, IIRC. One starts having problems above ISO 400. This, coupled with the small sensor, would make it a big challenge to shoot any macro pictures handheld. But if you use a tripod, this should pose no problems,

Secondly, I would worry about things like light falloff, aberrations, etc.

And lastly, since you cannot use a ring flash (presumably), how would you light your subjects properly if they are only centimeters from your lens?

Just some thoughts until the people in the know decide to chime in ;-)
