One of the most colorful hummingbirds in Costa Rica, especially when you get a little light on them, at just the right angle. This one was in some shade, and I used a little fill-flash to add a little light.

I've mentioned that I've recently moved to the 1D Mark IV, from the Mark II, and one of the areas of improvement I was looking forward to was higher ISO performance. With the Mark II, 1600 was pretty much the top end to get acceptable image quality (although there were occasional exceptions), while with the Mark IV, 3200 is quite usable, and higher still, especially for downsized web images.

This capture shows the advantages of full frame telephoto isolation and the brilliant color the 1D Mark Iv delivers. For the 1DX you'd just use the x2X convertor to get the same picture. I wonder how this would have been with the Olympus 4/3. Would one notice the difference with an 11x14 print?

I do wonder whether or not dinosaurs had vivacious and beautiful coloring. Did they compete for mates as much as their tiny descendants? Is there some relevance to color in giant vertebrates anyway?
