Deja Vu All Over Again

The first image I posted here when I first signed up on OPF was a coyote standing on an elk carcass in Yellowstone. Yesterday, in nearly the same location, I captured this red fox chewing on another elk carcass. Well, me and a dozen other guys! Canon 1D Mk II N, Sigma 100-300 f/4 + 1.4x TC, 420mm, 1/2000 @ f/5.6, ISO 400, + 1 1/3 EV.

Steve,

A great find. you're so fortunate. Looks like there's not a huge supply left. But at least the cold snow keeps the scant remains chilled and fresh. Still, only really strong jaws can crush the large bones to get at the marrow. I know hyenas do that easily. Doubt this fox can even break open a rib!

Show more of your captures! I want to see what it chooses to chew on!

BTW, given you use the Sigma 100-300mm, what's your opinion on their new 120-300mm version of this lens? The going Amazon.com price seems to be a$1.00 change from $3,000, so it's got to be special!..... or people are nuts!

Thanks for the comments Asher. When I went back the next day the only thing left was a piece of hide.

I've only seen the new lens on Sigma's website. The ones on Amazon may not be the latest lenses with Sigma's version of IS (OS) and full weatherproofing. Norman Camera is listing it for $3199 but it's currently out of stock. I am looking forward to seeing some images taken with the new lens. The only question is do I get it for the old 1D Mk II N or the old D2X or maybe I should buy the new Pentax K5 and the lens too. ;~D
