Research funds are paltry, the largest I have seen is $150,000 for an emerging neurological disease that makes these cats stumbles as their back legs cross, crumble and can’t support them!
Is it a new infection, a toxic effect of rat poisons or perhaps an algae growth in water?
Nobody knows! But the emerging disease it has a name: Feline leukomyelopathy!
Some citizens have reported their dogs with an apparently similar condition but so far no connection has been established.
But imagine for a moment: if this was the onset of a zoonotic breakthrough of a novel infection that could pass to man, we have zero robust response in the works. This is a matter for conservation charities, a local zoo and underfunded wildlife agencies.
The lack of public interest in astounding! We have known about this since 2018!
