Just for Fun No C&C will be given: Far north west highlands - Loch Inchard at dusk

Just to show you all where I've been this last few weeks, this is the view from the front door of the cottage we've just been in at Kinlochbervie, far north west of Scotland. We spent many hours wandering up and down the garden path to the shore of beautiful Loch Inchard, we had lovely golden late afternoon light on several occasions, howling gales, beautiful still reflections, cold and hot weather, basically Scotland did what it does best and thrilled us with it's ever changing magical light and weather. We've returned home, renewed, refreshed, happy and very content.

I've got 100's of beautiful shots to work my way slowly through, my poor old computer is struggling with the large files from the 5DMkII (which I'm thrilled with!) but I need to invest in a new PC quickly now....

Anyway, just wanted to show you where I've been.

Hi Janet,

Glad to see you've been having a good time, looks like a beautiful place to stay - and look forward to seeing some more shots. A question on this shot....

The mountain in the background seems almost washed out in comparison to the foreground. Am sure there is a very good reason for this, but can't decide what it must be - Scottish light?

Good to hear you are pleased with the 5D MkII, am tempted to upgrade myself later in the year - but bought a Epson 3800 last week, so need to start saving money again :)

Thanks for posting,

Lovely Janet - I'm very jealous. We've just returned from a week in Northumberland and after two days back in the office I'm shattered. Just loking at it is relaxing.

Janet,

I was waiting for these pictures! We're rewarded. This landscape with its overlapping rock and grass colonized slopes and blue still waters is given its scale but the miniscule houses in the mid-field. The set of buildings that is partially revealed at the edge of the vertical edge of the rock in left mid-field might be worth obscuring. This would leave the buildings on the right as the sole reference point for size of everything; perfect!

Hello Andrew

The mountain in the background - yes it was the light, it went this weird colour in the last of the evening light, caused by the cloud above it, some days the mountains in the foreground glowed strong rusty red at dusk.

Yes, the 5DMkII has lived up to my expectations, the 24-105 lens that it comes with suffers some vignetting at the wide end, but apparently Canon have a fix for it which I've not tried yet, the shots that did show slight vignetting in sky I just cloned out....

Hi Mike

Sorry to hear your shattered after just 2 days back - the house was in the most beautiful location, with gorgeous beaches all around, we going back to the area again in August.

The only problem is now I have literally 100's of shots to work my way through, and as Rachel says the files from the 5DMKII are huge and slowing me down, so I'm going to have to buy a new computer now, the expense is never ending isn't it!

Good morning Asher

The reality of the enormity of environment, and how silent the place is cannot be conveyed, we think that where we live is quiet, but when we go to these remote areas of Scotland we realise that it's not, we take delight in listening to the sheep munching and the occassional cacophony of nearby nesting greylag geese shattering the silence from time to time.....

I'm glad you like this one, thank you.

Hi Janet,

Your image leaves no doubt about how you spent your time!

And if you think

"The only problem is now I have literally 100's of shots to work my way through,...!"

having 100's of shots like this one to work through will yield any sympathy, your perspective needs to be recalibrated :).

Hi Nat

Thanks for looking, no need for recalibration though:) I couldn't be happier to have so much work to go through!

I'll be able to get through them considerably faster from next Wednesday when my new Mac arrives, at the moment my poor old computer takes about 7 mins to open 1 file from the 5dmkII! I've processed 70 plus images already (very slowly!), first batch of 50 just passed quality control, so I'm delighted to have so much more work to go through when new iMac arrives next week.

Thanks for stopping by, I'll post some more shots when I've finished working on them, could be a while!
