How common is it near you?

It’s simply amazing to me in its flamboyant beauty for such a small creature!

I wonder whether the large fibers give it defense by the appearance of a larger, more ominous foe for any would be threat?

Or do birds and snakes and other insects gobble them up just the same?

Well as I posted earlier many "furry" ones have venom glands as the base of the hairs which provide venom to any hairs that are broken off say when to brush them aside. I brushed against one ounce while mowing the lawn and it stung the dickens out of me. It's impression on my leg left purple blotches on my skin in it's form and I couldn't get rid of it online for months afterwards.
