It's a motorized device that stays locked on the North Star allowing exposures up to 240 seconds or more to make precise, pinpoint captures of the Milky Way. In essence, as the earth moves through space, in a normal exposure calculation you've got but 15-20 seconds at high ISO's to make the capture. With the MSM, the camera stays locked to one point in the sky allowing longer exposures. MSM
