Great Blue Heron at local pond

Taking my nightly constitutional I happened to see movement on a small island at the local pond in SC.
I saw it was a Great Blue Heron preening itself and drove back to get my Canon and took this with my 400 5.6 L .
It was really a pleasant surprise from all the other resident ducks and geese. :)
Hope some enjoy .

Don,

The leaves here add a certain Japanese calligraphy feeling to it.

I like these birds even though they are frightening to look at eating a pigeon or rabbit! Do you have shots with the head straight?

Thanks for responding Asher.
Yea , the heron looks like an old general with a beard guarding his little island in this pose and the light was not the best :)

Don,

Now that's a pretty wise fellow!

Thanks,

Asher

Yea ,it was kinda funny I saw the movement and all these girls and guys with their IPods walking and running or talking on cell phones seemed oblivious to it until I pointed it out to some :)

Asher ,one more and I really liked the way the heron had its neck curved.

Don,

This is wonderful! Of course you like this curved neck! How come you held this back till last!! Now for more of the trees!

So rich! The silver birch tree, trunks, peeling bark and leaves are so beautiful.
