Excellent bird and a good background. I like the variation in light on the right. Still, I might suggest that the top left hand corner be darkened gradually towards the periphery and to a lesser extent the lower left. No boldly just enough to remove the even drawing of the image. The bird deserves to be especially rewarded with light.

Also could the detailing of the feathers, especially in the neck, be brought out a tad with an S-curve and some limited sharpening?

Aside: These herons are so wonderfully varied in coloration. I wonder whether they also interbreed or just look at another type and say, "Yuk, not even if I was drunk and that was the last bird on the planet!" :)
