Hi from Medford, OR. I've been an avid amateur photographer since buying my first 35mm SLR in 1976 (Canon AE-1). I later moved to a Nikon 8008. I ventured into the wet darkroom, focusing more on color than traditional B/W. My preferred medium was to shoot E6 positives, develop, and print using Cibrachrome. I moved to digital a few years back with a Canon Digital Rebel, then on to a 10D, and then finding a nice condition used 1Ds, which is my current camera. I've considered the newer equipment, but quite frankly the 1Ds serves my purposes well. While I've done a few paid shoots, my photography is mainly for personal joy. I've posted some of my work (eclectic as it may be) at www.ohenry.smugmug.com . I've really come to enjoy working in the digital darkroom and continuously seek to learn as much as I can from others.

I retired from the United States Submarine Service in 1990, spent a few years as a stock broker, but now just consider myself retired (young!). I just turned 55 a few days ago.

I found this site while doing a Google search looking for information on DxO, recognized some names of people whose writings and work I respect and thought that this would be a welcome change from some of the other sites.

Bonjour Carl
welcome on board!
Nice to have someone interested with DxO, do you use it? if yes, which version? Which platform?
I use 3.5 on Mac (Beta V4 is unfortunately not available for the Macs…).
I found it very usefull on some images but not all and the 3.5 is painly slow…

Any feed-back on this, please post in the appropriate forum (Image Processing and Workflow)

Welcome again

Carl, I'm glad you found us, too. And I hope you'll have a look especially at the several fora here where members post pictures.

I've been to your gallery and looked briefly at pictures in all the sections and a long time at some of the images, and I would very much enjoy seeing what you might have further that you'd like to share with the members at OPF.

I particularly enjoyed some of your nature photography, that shot at a pier in Bandon, and your self-portraits, just to recall a few at random from my visit to your gallery.

I've been to Oregon once, in 1989. Have a first cousin living in Glendale, OR, which is not too far from Medford. She used to work at a sawmill there--she's since retired, and I'm not even sure if the mill is still in operation, but she took me there when I visited.

I like OPF for its warmth and helpfulness--I'm a novice with a G2, and a rank amateur. And I like it because so many fine photographers are posting great pictures here and the comments of very insightful fellow photographers are helping me to understand specifically why I like what I do, in pictures, and why I find other pictures less appealing to me.

Hoping to see more here from you,

Mary

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone.

Nicholas, I have just started playing with DxO. I'm using v4.0 Unfortunately, there's not a lot of information available for this tool, so I'm at the mercy of the included manual and my own willingness to explore.
