The banyan tree is a species of fig tree brought to Hawaii from India by missionaries and traders that is native to tropical and subtropical regions of India, Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, and the Caribbean.

It has characteristic air roots from the branches and trunk so as it develops it appears that the trunk is made of a bunch of nearly vertical subcomponents that join a winding branches bold surface root system they a similar to thick branches that penetrate deeply into the ground, anchoring the tree over a large diameter.

It provides food and shelter for other species of plants and animals.

Looks to be a complex system of life ?
The twisting symbolizes binding the Hawaiian people together. The entire complex tree also becomes the respected residences of spirits that Hawaiian folklore respect and honor!

Key trees are found alongside important government buildings and temples!
