Hello Everyone

Roger Mechan

New member
My name is Roger Mechan, I started writing travel articles and motorcaravan reviews for UK based magazines as a hobby and over the last five years, since 'I retired', requests for my services have grown somewhat. I make no claims to be either a photographer or writer but combining the two does help to cover flaws in one or the other, and it is a lot cheaper for editors. I work on the principle that one day the phone won't ring so in the meantime I intend to enjoy it.

Most of my work centres around Continental Europe but as I enjoy travel I am equally happy going to the bottom of the garden if there is a good story/photograph there. Mind you, as the bottom of my garden is Dartmoor it's not too much of a strain.

My gear consists of a Canon 20D with 10-22 and 17-85 EF-S lenses plus a 25-105 USM L, which I had to buy in New Zealand this year when the 17-85 lens broke at the start of the tour. I bought it on the premis that I would trade up to a 5D eventually but now the Mk111 has appeared on the scene I am thinking of plumping for that, and adding a wide angle lens, such as the 16-35 L.

The main reason is that I shoot anything that will go with the words, be it landscape, fauna, action, and dark places such as musty cathedrals. If the MK111 lives up to the hype it should have all those bases covered.

Well, that's about it, and I am looking forward to learning heaps. Oh, one other thing, my website is at:-

www.featuresandphotos.com

Kind Regards
Roger

Welcome Chuck!

I'd still consider the 5D. The extra real estate means that you will get wider wide angles, and that is valuable in landscape or interior photography. The ultrawide Sigma is worth looking at to go with the 5D.

It's great to have you with us.

Please plunge right in and post all the travel stories you can.

Of course you wont be able to give us the Eskimo news that David gives us, but New Zealand and Europe is pretty fine too!

Look at David J. Eves' work here!

Welcome Roger and we hope to see your work and get you integrated in to this place!

Asher
