Hello from the UK

I've been here for a while now, and made a few posts, so it's only polite to introduce myself.

I've spent most of my working life as a software developer, starting in 1974 with an ICL 1900 and progressing through the 2900 and 3900 mainframes.
The big mainframes are being retired now, and having just come to grips with Oracle databases I find it's nearly time for me to go as well.

My greatest love is walking in the English Lake District (I can remember when it was in B&W), and so far the photography has been secondary to the walking and limited by what I can comfortably carry. Currently a 350D + EFS17-85 is about as much as I can manage.

Still, in a few weeks I'll have much more time to take photos. I may even get round to writing a YAG (Yet Another Guidebook).

Nice to meet you all.

Stuart

Welcome again Stuart,

Photography that follows what one love's is bound to express more of your feelings, if that is possible.

Consider, writing the YAG for OPF.

Articles are appreciated!

Hi Stuart,

Based in the UK also - in not so sunny Preston. The Lakes is a favourite place of mine too - parents were geography teachers so used to get bundled along with school trips from the age of 4 - although I'm young enough that it wasn't in B&W :)

Am currently using a 20D with 17-85 most of the time - though nearly finished saving for an ultra-wide.

Maybe bump into you on those beautiful fells,

Thanks to everyone for the welcome.

Andy,
If you come across a slightly overweight elderly gentleman with a greying beard say hello. It may be me.

looking frward to seeing some of your Lake Photos

Gary,
At the moment my website isn't suitable for viewing by 'proper' photographers. It was put together for the benefit of my walking companions and some of the early photos are pretty grim. Some were even scanned with a hand-held. Not pretty. I'm slowly working my way through all the negatives though.
I'll have to get a pbase a/c and put some of the better ones there; plus the digital of course.

So I won't be holding my breath. You may wish to check out some of the other photo hosting sites ... PBase seems to be down much of the time. I am at Smugmug. Basic account is around $50 USD, unlimited uploading. I think it is pretty user friendly ... one can up-grade to more expensive accounts with more features.
