Hi. New here and a refugee from non-professional forums

I tried several other forums and found they were mostly crewed by Uncle Bob types. You know the kind - people that own an expensive piece of kit and think that because they can take a picture with it, that makes them an expert.

Anyway, I'm British but I live in South Carolina, where I opened a photography business last year. Customers are still a bit slow in coming but I think I have a wedding coming up in October. Meanwhile I'm busily advertising on TV. I got a sweet deal for 3 months of advertising on digital terrestrial and cable TV. Bizarrely that also included streamed video.

My business website is here: www.sagephotoworld.com. I thought a lot about it but decided to stick with java galleries rather than flash on the basis that as I have a $300, 2-hour basic budget package, some of my clientelle might be using dial-up. Flash usually has a heavy overhead.

I've just gone into the second generation of business cards - the first lot were templates but the current batch is of my own design. I can't say they're brilliant because a friend spotted a massive flaw in them. Thank goodness I only bought 300. I omitted to include my name and PO Box number. The rest of the card is more than adequate though. The 3rd generation of cards will have the missing information but the omission isn't bad enough to need to reprint.

My likes - photography, business and guns. My dislikes - political correctness, liars and know-it-alls.

I like constructive criticism but somebody that says something is crap will get short shrift from me.

I use Canon gear. Currently that is a 30D with XT+BGE3 backup, Canon 17-85 IS, Canon 70-300 IS, Tamron 28-75, Tamron 17-35, 2 x 580EX2s, 420EX, 430EX, STE-2 and a portable studio consisting of assorted light stands and a background stand with several backgrounds. I use the speedlights as my portable studio lighting.

Overall I am impressed by the accuracy of the speedlight control - when it's used with a stofen or bounced. Direct flash cuts off way too soon as I find the system reacts badly to specular reflections.

Anyway.... that's my self-introduction.

A great welcome to you Rhys! You seem very well geared up. Your website is clean and easy to follow. Sometimes clicking an option gives a blank web page, so it needs be be cheacked in different browsers. I love your TV astronaut commercial. It's short enough to work and be funnny!

You should not find any of the miscreants you refer to, unless you are on the run, LOL! Few such guys get through the registration process. It's an open forum, but that is just for folk who are allowed in the living room!

Political correctness you might not find a lot of but you will find courtesy and helpful attitudes. People don't grandstand, but we do have personalities and even major differences in our experience and styles, except we learn form each other and enjoy seeing problems solved amd progress.

Jump in and share pics, that's the bread and butter. We do have a great breadth and depth of talent and experience to draw on!

Welcome!

Asher

I'm using an Apple Mac. I have no problems on my Mac with my website using either Safari or Firefox. When I view it on my stepsons PC, the printer server PC, my Windows laptop or my wife's Windows laptop, I get no problem with blank pages. It could well be a communication issue. When was the last time you rebooted your router?

I get blank pages occasionally but it's not site specific I suspect this is more of a time-warner problem as it happens in my home but not at my in-laws houses.

My site is actually hosted in Britain so there could possibly be a communications issue there too.
