Almost
Ron, I saw you were in St. Thomas - one of my favorite islands in the Carribbean. I shot the same harbor at Charlotte Amalie last November and even had a rainbow appear over the harbor for the pleasure of the other OPF members.
Well, since you asked about my studio, being that being an accountant pays the studio rent, I have been a bit pre-occupied. I dumped my accounting work on my poor husband (a CPA) and ran off to Santa Fe for a class (I posted about the class with a few images) and then ran off to Las Vegas for the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographer's International Convention) where I registered for a few classes, and planned to buy my final items to be fully opened. I did buy some really interesting backgrounds, some software (Nik Color Efx and ProSelect) and even a fun lens for some snapshots when I travel (A Tamron 28-300 with image stabilization)
At WPPI, the teacher for the lighting class got ill between session one and two. I missed a class on children's portraiture, but did attend a wedding class and learned a few interesting lighting tricks. I won a few hundred at the blackjack table (yay) I sought out some vendors for printing and other products too and bought a few samples (like hand bags and diaper bags with images on them) and some other new products only a mother could love.
The teacher from Santa Fe is going to let me assist/2nd shoot on a few weddings and set up some workflow actions for me. We really hit it off and he was local to me! Oh - did I mention that Kodak is going to publish 10 of my images in a book from my Santa Fe Class!!!! I put a few up in the thread.
Everything is in place, I actually have done a few shoots and even have some print orders. I ran an ad in a local newpaper which breaks on Monday.
However, a slight delay in plans. While arriving in Las Vegas, some rude human being pushed me while I was retrieving my luggage from baggage claim and caused me to spend a few days in a hotel room hoping for some pain relief for a sprained lumbar-sacral joint. So while I was moving completely today into the studio, I cannot lift more than a camera with a 50mm lens on it. In the meantime, I have ordered some more stuff, like frames and canvas images. The phone is there, the desk is there, the lights are there, my website is up, I have it all ready for clients. And I am beginning to venture out to market like a mad woman. As soon as I can walk upright.
Thanks for asking!
