Here are a few images of Wat Pho, the temple of the reclining Buddha, in Bangkok
Is that Buddha cast in real gold? Or do they just paint or add gold leaf over carved wood?

I think mostly they are gold leaf, but I believe there is one real gold one which they uncovered a few years ago which had been covered in plaster to conceal it from the enemy and when the plaster was removed they discovered this
