Images of Switzerland and it's Alps '16

No photograph can ever do justice to the scenes and viewpoints I looked over and dwelled upon in this beautiful part of the world. Instead, the camera can only belittle as it attempts to record and capture such grandeur...

This is a view into the Lauterbrunnen Valley from a very high vantage point above Mannlichen...Breithorn can be seen along the range.

When I look at the steep mountains and the lush well providing valleys, I cannot help thinking of the ancient man, "The Iceman", wounded in his chest with an arrow, found frozen in the Alpine ice pack.

He had in his stomach fruits and berries and evidence of plant life that allowed his journey through such land as this to be mapped quite accurately!

A view of the Silberhorn. It's peak is always snow-capped, it's customarily curved ridge is it's nature and makes it unmistakable in appearance.

A view of the Eiger's north face, also called 'Deadman's Chest'. This is the most perilous path up this mountain and has claimed many a climber's life. A lot of the time the Deadman's Chest can be filled with cloud, creating it's own micro climate.

Another view of the Silberhorn, along the mountain range of the Jungfrau...

This B&W split-toned image of the Silberhorn is one of only a few B&W's I have managed to process out of all my images of the Swiss alps. Colour has been the mainstay and I can't help it. :)

Looking up from beneath the north face of the Eiger after having trekked along it's base at 2,220m. The summit of the Eiger is something like 3,970m...not the tallest by any means, but it sure is one of the harshest.

What an exquisite shot, and a great way to appreciate why this peak, and that face in particular, is so famous.

Best regards,

Doug

Taken from a train ride up through Wengen which afforded me a better view of the Breithorn, top right...

A view of the Jungfrau mountain, it's name translates as 'Maiden'. Whereas, on the left of her is the Eiger - 'Ogre', and unseen on the right is the Monch - 'Monk'.

With this one, I spotted these branches in the foreground and loved how they mimicked the shape of the Jungfrau and it's striations, offering up some analogy; which I love and and am always on the lookout for in my photography.

Even though this is a tiny peak, it still has a ceiling of 13,000ft...:)

Hi,

respect, you hit the point ... I say this as a nearby neighbour to Switzerland and mountain photographer there and then ... :))

Your photos activate memories of the alpine photos from the seventies ...t

To me, these avalanche barriers are amazing, such feats of construction must have been involved in putting them up, and worthy of a photograph I think...

Hahaha, you know what Don, I had him and that film in my mind all the time I was there, no word of a lie...
I saw the film in my youth many times. :)

Btw, you can see the swimming pool of the lido down in the valley...don't want snow getting in that! :)

A definition of a mountain: a large pile or quantity of something.

Synonyms: peak, height, elevation, eminence, prominence, summit, pinnacle, mountaintop, alp, horn, heap, pile, mound, stack...and cone. :)

It is hard to choose the one I like most, Paul !

They are all amazing !

Perhaps there is a haze in all images... am I wrong ?

:)

Andy, i'm happy you like that one. Personally, I didn't think much of it but your words about the image are very encouraging, so thank you...
Up here in the swiss alps it's necessary to find foreground elements to offer up some scale and interest, and I tried my best in doing that.

Antonio, thanks again. There is haze in a fair few of the images, mist and cloud around the mountains can always be forming or just burning off...

Some pretty looking chalet front-yards in Murren, they do love they're flowers. Although, I was more interested in the play of angles here...
