This was actually to test ISO 1600 and in-camera conversion to b/w - almost 4 years ago.
He was so kind to pose and liked the result as well, to a point that he used this photo on various occasions.

Cropping it a little on the top would help, but finally - this was just for testing :)

This is a unique image for the eyes which are particularly prominent and engaging. Could be that's the way he is, eyes so wide open! To have white beneath the iris usually means a major emotional surprise.

By chance there are lines in the ground behind him. Because of his stark stare, you have a feature to be balanced, if you wish. I'd love to see those lines made bold to counter the powerful gaze. These lines intersect and are parallel to the shape of his hand; something to explore further, perhaps! :)
