It's done or it's just starting

Well, it started out last year I took a studio lighting class (or two).

Then I bought lights.

When my office was too small to turn into a real studio I decided to look at studios I could use to have a client or two at for some photos.

Then the photographer in the office building who does 300 weddings a year moved and people were knocking on doors looking for them. My dentist took over that space, but the space enxt door to that came open.

So we decided to take the plunge. I've been negotiating with the landlord.

I wrote a check yesterday and signed a lease. I did a business plan. I have a lot of work to do but I should get the keys in a few weeks. The construction of my walls starts on Monday.

Yikes.

Well, as Churchill once said:

"Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

Have fun, I am sure you'll be a huge success. Congrats :).

Cheers,

Phew!

I am just home from my first Bat Mitzvah shoot. I had so much fun. They paid me to have that much fun! WOW....

Okay, now I have to process 1500 photos of 13 year olds having fun...ahhh...workflow! (and a good bubble bath for the weary bones that lugged around 4 lenses and a body all night!

Oh yeah!

Thanks for the reminder. I have so much accounting work to do that I won't get the PP done for a week on the event, but, I will blog the studio buildout. Photo a day ought to be fun!

Very impressive Kathy. I know nothing about building a studio but it sure looks like you do. It looks great inside and out. Congratulations and good luck in your upcoming adventures.

Long response disappeard

I hate when that happens.

No, I don't know a lot about building a studio. I have built two bank branches and a couple accounting offices in my other careers and done some interior design as a hobby. I wanted to appear different than all the studios using Antique and French Provincial furnishings because I want to attact a cross section of types of clients.

I do my first shoot today. I have a maternity portrait to do. The Mom to Be is very pretty and is a hairstylist and makeup artist and I am not charging her for the sitting. Just product so that I can use it for portfolio. I hope to have a lot of work for her too.
