This is another of my favorite places in Houston to shoot. It is the Antioch Baptist Church and it's an old and historical little church that sits in stark contrast downtown amongst all of the giant skyscrapers. The neon sign is a landmark and a beacon and I think it is quite quirky indeed. The first image is one of the first photographs that I ever took when I bought my first digital camera about one year ago. It is still one of my favorites even though there are many things that may be "wrong" with it. The light was very nice on that early morning and my wife and I were just strolling around using my new D40 and kit lens. I really had no idea what I was doing but I really liked the way this one turned out. It was one of those lucky occasions for me. It is also the first photograph that I wanted to print, frame, and hang on our walls. The photo of the neon sign was one I took for a little monthly contest I participate in on another forum. I took that one at 4:00am one Sunday morning. Being in that part of downtown Houston at that time in the morning was an adventure to say the least but it was a trip I really am glad to have made.
