Towards the end of last June I received confirmation of my retirement after working 35 years in the Australian Public Service. Two days later I saw a notice in an Austalian photographic forum about a forthcoming photographic trip to Antarctica and the Falkland Islands. I thought long and hard about this and after five or ten minutes decided to go. Unlike Fahim who perhaps never stops travelling, this would be my first trip outside Australia and New Zealand as an adult.
I teamed up with Greg Kraushaar, another person from that forum, and we added our own itinerary, mainly self-driven and non-guided. You can see images and text from the trip in my blog: www.murrayfoote.com.
So far I have posted in the blog for Buenos Aires, Glaciers National Park (Patagonia/ Argentina), Torres del Paine National Park (Patagonia/ Chile), Puerto Natales (Patagonia/ Chile), Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego/ Argentina), King George Islands and Argentine Islands (Antarctica), Falkland Islands, a couple of places on the Patagonian coast of Argentina, Iguazu Falls (Argentina) and Santiago (Chile). Though I am back in Australia I am still preparing images so there remains Easter Island and Tahiti to go (no wildlife images to come from there, though).
Here are some of the images:
Flamingo at Lago Azul, Torres del Paine National Park, Patagonia (Chile)
Humpback whale and fairy tern, near Vernadsky Station, Argentine islands, Antarctica
Wandering albatross (in force 10 gale), Drake Passage, South Atlantic Ocean
Porpoising Gentoo Penguins, Steeple Jason Island, Falkland Islands
(This is in the "Wildlife" Forum. I have also posted some more images under the "Landscapes/ Travel" Forum.)
