Juvenile Red-Shouldered Hawk

He was sitting in a tree in my neighborhood, not five feet off the ground and staring hungerly at a yappy Chihuahua. I didn't hang around to watch but when I came back from the grocery, both he and the dog were conspicuously absent.

Great detail, Chris. The white background is a bit distracting, but not much you can do there.

Do you really think it got the dog? Now *that* would have made for some interesting photos!

Thanks, Don. He was just a noisy little puppy...perhaps but from a dead lift, that might have been a challenge for a bird this size. Gray overcast sky...not much to be done there.

Very sharp. I don't mind the cloudy background as the branches beyond give interest. Nice!

The beauty of the bird is enhanced by the setting on the tree with the bark broken up, akin to feathers and painted green with moss.

A wonderful winter scene.

Good looking feathered friend Chris, very nice capture! I have a red shoulder that has arrived here at my place each spring (for the last three years). They are real talkers, and when I'm mowing the fields he follows to pick up snakes. He brings them over for me to see, then drapes them over large branches and finishes his work. He can consume 15 - 20 snakes in a day of mowing. No beautiful photos like yours, but here is one from my backyard where he will often come to hunt. He's gone now for the winter,so it's mach quieter now.
