Oh Cem, l didn't know you lived in the city...and i've not been in touch with you and your photographs on here either.
Anyway, it has been really hard getting photos of this city. You need more statues, Cem. :)
I was there back in the late nineties and it seemed the buildings were more colourful back then, although it's been a long time since and my recollection maybe a bit awry...Thanks, Cem.

Don't worry I was just pulling your leg. I don't live in Amsterdam but my daughter does and I'm there very often. I'd have gladly made the trip to meet you so perhaps another time.

So in which sense it was hard getting photos?

l think it comes down to how l see things and the angles l was looking for. It is a lot more busier now, a lot more traffic heads down those canal roads with a lot of parked cars along them.
I find the car an absolute bane for the photographer, don't you? The motor car always looks so ugly, out of place and especially anachronistic alongside Amsterdams old and beautiful buildings.

So perhaps your wonderful decision to present these in monochrome was extra fortuitous!

Great shots of a fascinating city (I have not been there, sadly, since I think 1972).

Best regards,

Doug

These are fabulous monochrome shots and it shows that one does not "need" a Leica Monochrom to achieve such results with pretty good orthogonality at 21mm right out of the camera. One cannot but be really impressed in the engineering of this relatively modest priced but high quality camera and 21mm add on lens combination.

Paul,

You bring your recognizable point of view, including an interesting foreground taste to introduce the well seen buildings.

....but what are you doing in Amsterdam and didn't know that Cem Usakligil or Bart Van Der Wolfe could take you around....especially the port. That is a must! So we'll have to arrange a meet.

How about this summer....or will you be back in London...and then I will catch you there?

Asher
